This activity was given extra shine by the visit ofAlderman for Sports Laurens van Doeveren, who saw with his own eyes how sport connects and motivates young people.

Diverse and accessible program in the area

The Sports Week program offered something for everyone. For seniors there was Walking Football, an accessible way to stay active and strengthen social contacts. Together with the exercise coach from Fit in Wassenaar, we walked outside in the green on the QR-Fit route. The neighborhood sports activities brought children together in the neighborhood. Exercising together is an easy way to meet people.

Think of sporty adults who were introduced to the Start to Run running course at Loopgroep Wassenaarse Slag. The BC Wassenaar Badminton Grab Tournament created a cozy and dynamic atmosphere in the sports hall, with participants always playing with a different partner.

Festive closing

The week ended with the Extraordinary Jumping Event in Sports Hall De Duinpan: a jumping festival with air cushions, obstacle courses and an interactive basketball game. At the same time, children could get acquainted with padel sports outside on the padel courts at De Kieviten and relax in the clubhouse during the reading activity from the Wassenaar library. There were no less than 250 participants. It was a festive end to a week in which sports, fun, health and connection were central.

Strongly moving together

The Wassenaar Sports Week 2025 was a great success thanks to the efforts of many volunteers, associations and participants. According to exercise coach and club supporter Dirk Wils, the goal was clear: We wanted to get as many people moving as possible, in a way that was fun and accessible, and we succeeded. The Sports Week is also a way to strengthen the sport. A good example of this is the WZK front crawl clinic during the sports week, because this activity has led to something lasting at the club. Wesley Bierens, neighborhood sports coach and club supporter, also looks back with satisfaction: The energy and involvement of all participants and partners was inspiring. This week shows how powerful sport can be for connection and vitality in the community. We aim for healthy growing up, fit living and vital aging.

In October, Fit in Wassenaar organized the Wassenaar Sports Week in collaboration with local sports clubs, sports providers and social partners.
