Friday, March 25, was the official opening on the schoolyard of the Kievietschool regarding the Healthy Schoolyard impulse. The children from the student council were enthusiastic and it was a beautiful day to play outside!
The aim of the Kieviet School is to encourage exercise and playing together. The square stickers give children more options and encourage them to play and exercise. In this way, children become more motor skilled in a playful way, they work on the exercise guidelines and their collective creativity is activated. This is in line with the ambition ‘Young and skilled in exercise’ from the sports and prevention agreement Fit in Wassenaar.
Almost half of the children in the Netherlands do not exercise enough (CBS, 2021). Children sit for hours a day, even at school, and play outside less. The schoolyard is one of children’s favorite places to play and exercise. A well-designed learning and exercise area can be used for more than just playing. For example, the square stickers of the alphabet also make the link to learning through movement.
