On Saturday, June 3, the 1st Wassenaar Cycling Festival will take place in the Deijlerhuis at Hofcampweg 3. This morning (10 a.m. – 12 p.m.) the Wassenaar Cycling Union is organizing a festival packed with cycling activities for young and old, with cyclists at the center.
A varied range of bicycles is presented that can be admired and tested. This way you can get acquainted with cycling on 3 wheels or 4 wheels. There is an e-bike instructor present, under whose guidance you can take a test ride on an e-bike. And for children there is a bicycle stunt course where you can perform stunts on your own or on one of the available bicycles.
For people who want to learn to patch tires and do minor bicycle repairs, a mini course ‘repair your own bicycle’ starts three times, lasting 30 minutes.
Fietsmaatjes will be present with their beautiful duo bikes for a test ride and the Volunteer Center will be present with information about cycling lessons, among other things. And on a festive day like this, the Ice Bike will not be missing. The sports and prevention agreement Fit in Wassenaar supports this day.
Municipality actively involved.
The municipality of Wassenaar is looking for ideas on how we can get more people cycling in our beautiful village. Young and old can submit ideas for this at the municipal table. The best idea will be rewarded at the end of the morning with a nice prize, presented by traffic councilor Wim Koetsier.
At the Cyclists’ Union table you can indicate unsafe cycling points and of course the most beautiful cycling locations in our village. The aim of the event is to stimulate cycling fun, safe cycling, making cycling possible for everyone and a fun morning for everyone. Marcel Kleizen, chairman of the Wassenaar department: ‘Wassenaar is one of the most beautiful municipalities for cycling. We want to celebrate this with many fun cycling activities. At the same time, there is still a lot to do in Wassenaar to improve cycling facilities in our village. With this festival we try to highlight as many aspects of cycling as possible and together make it a wonderful World Cycling Day.
