Lecture by former top hockey player Pepijn Keppel in Wassenaar library. The lecture has been postponed due to circumstances.

He plays at a high level on the hockey field. But when the struggle surrounding his orientation escalates, Pepijn Keppel suddenly ends his top sports career.
“In top sport you cannot show weakness at any point. For a long time I thought that my homosexuality was a weakness and that I would be bullied for it,” says Pepijn. He would like to enter into discussions with the sport to talk about minority groups that do not feel at home. Hopefully local associations will also come to the lecture to listen to it with an open mind.

On Coming Out Day, which takes place annually in October, attention is paid to coming out.
On Coming Out Day there is no large central celebration, but smaller activities are organized in several places.

Pepijn Keppel (1996) is a writer, journalist for De Groene Amsterdammer, columnist for Trouw, former top athlete and environmental scientist. In April 2022 he made his debut with his non-fiction book The Last Man, about his coming out in top sport. He previously worked for NRC Handelsblad, Follow the Money and Vrij Nederland, among others.
