This autumn, Fit in Wassenaar contributed to various exercise activities for seniors that took place in the 3 SMOW meeting centers. This familiar environment made it easier for older people to participate in the activities.
This autumn, 25 seniors will be able to strengthen their muscles every week, which is very important in the context of fall prevention and also when growing fit and vital. Did you know that keeping moving is the best medicine to stay strong? Exercise is also an important factor in preventing and delaying dementia. Research shows that people who exercise sufficiently have a lower risk of dementia than people who exercise less. It is important to make exercise fun and to perform it regularly so that it lasts longer. And the participants certainly had fun!
The lessons were given by Tessa Kardolus from Happi-Tess and physiotherapist Annet Corten from De Zorgpraktijk, both trained and experienced in getting seniors to exercise. The activities in the meeting centers also contribute to reducing feelings of loneliness. SMOW is a partner of Fit in Wassenaar and jointly implements the Healthy and Active Living Agreement. We hope to continue with exercise classes for seniors in 2026. If you are interested in participating, you can contact SMOW (070-5112226 between 09:00 and 14:00 or via info@smowassenaar.nl)
