In June 2024, we kicked off club support in the clubhouse at De Duinpan, with the meetingClub ready for the future. Sports councilor Laurens van Doeveren opened the evening and handed over the baton to club supporters Dirk Wils and Wesley Bierens. Their mission? Helping associations become stronger, healthier and future-proof – from membership recruitment to social safety, from healthy canteens to administrative strength.
A lot has happened since then. During the OCIVI meeting (Our Club Is For Everyone) in September 2024, we and local partners reflected on how sport can contribute to health, prevention and social connection. The club supporters also worked individually with associations:
- Volunteers & members: 12 conversations, 8 clubs with policies and insight into their membership base.
- Social safety: 4 associations now have Certificates of Good Conduct, rules of conduct and a confidential contact person. Small clubs can also contact an external confidential counselor via the Volunteer Center Wassenaar.
- Healthy sports environment: 10 clubs are smoke-free, 15 are working on a healthy canteen.
-
Social role: more and more associations are opening their doors to the neighborhood and vulnerable target groups. Sports connects!
-
Wassenaarse Sports Week 2024 & 2025: almost 1000 participants took part!
In collaboration with the volunteer center, we now also have an external confidential counselor for small associations, so that they can also contact them for any questions and/or cases and in this way can connect with national policy.
These steps are consistent with the new onesSports vision Wassenaar: vital associations, more sports participation and an exercise-friendly environment. We’re not done yet. We want to achieve even more in 2026: safe sports culture, healthy canteens and administrators who work on the future with impact. Together we make sports in Wassenaar stronger, safer and healthier!
