Declaration of intent signed: Together for a healthy youth in Wassenaar

12/01/2026

Local network partners have officially confirmed their collaboration by signing the declaration of intent for the Chain Approach Child to Healthier Weight (KnGG). In Wassenaar, 10% of 2-4 year olds and 14% of 13 year olds are overweight. We are jointly committed to helping children and young people grow up healthily and provide a solid foundation for the future.

Joining local forces
The KnGG chain approach brings together various organizations to provide appropriate help in the right place. The network includes: Municipality of Wassenaar, Youth Health Care (JGZ), Trias Children’s Physiotherapy, dieticians and Fit in Wassenaar. Through this collaboration, we ensure an integrated approach in which medical and social support go hand in hand. It is not only about nutrition and exercise, but also about strengthening self-confidence and creating a healthy living environment. The chain approach is initiated, facilitated and implemented by Fit in Wassenaar, part of Kanslokaal.

Chain approach as part of local youth policy
The KnGG chain approach is a method in which professionals work together to identify and guide children with (a risk of) obesity. This is in line with the Local Youth Policy policy document that was adopted by the municipal council in the autumn. This describes, among other things, that the physical health of young people is under pressure due to unhealthy diet, little exercise and excessive screen use. This leads to obesity, sleep problems and reduced motor skills. A healthy living environment in which exercise, play and healthy eating are self-evident is therefore crucial. This is also in line with the Growing up in a Promising Environment (OKO) program. That is one of the reasons why Wassenaar recently became a JOGG municipality. The official kick-off will take place in 2026 and here is the preliminary announcement.
