Fall Prevention follow-up day by Fit in Wassenaar

26/01/2026

In 2025, Fit has organized various free fall prevention courses in Wassenaar. These are interventions recognized by the RIVM, namely ‘Falling Past Time’ and ‘In Balance’. An inspiring and fun return day was organized for the participants on December 12. During this meeting we jointly looked back on the results achieved and the progress in mobility and self-confidence. Self-confidence was immediately tested by the weather conditions in the new year.

Fall prevention return day

The new year got off to an exciting start with snow and slippery conditions. This is reflected in the number of falls. This has increased considerably, especially among older people. A fall has consequences and in some cases a lasting impact on the quality of life. That is why Fit’s recognized courses in Wassenaar are so valuable. In addition to picking up important tips and exercises for a safe and powerful daily life, there was plenty of room for social contact on the return day. It was wonderful to see that the group has not only become physically stronger, but also experiences a lot of support for each other.

Participants tell

Participant Wilma says: “A few years ago I fell over a tree root and I wanted to prevent this from happening again. When I read about the fall prevention course in the Wassenaarse Krant, I contacted them. I now know that walking and chatting and looking around at the same time is not useful from a certain age. I now know that I have to fall while rolling. Balance is also very important and I have practiced what you can do with it to remain steady.” According to participant Charles, keeping moving is the most important. “I never knew that I could do so much myself at my age to ensure that I am and remain fitter and have less chance of falling. Thanks to the course, I now know that and that helps me, today and in the future.”

Stay on your feet

Everyone naturally wants to remain healthy and independent for as long as possible. You can contribute to this yourself. Consider training your muscles and balance, eating healthy, wearing good shoes that suit the weather and having your eyes checked regularly. It can be nice to get some support and that is possible at Fit in Wassenaar. Fit in Wassenaar focuses on healthy and safe aging through recognized fall prevention courses and information. Residents from Wassenaar can participate in these courses once for FREE.

Fall risk

Have you perhaps noticed that you are more anxious and worried about falling than you thought? Do you have more difficulty moving, walking or keeping balance? Have you even fallen recently? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you have an increased risk of falling. It is then useful to contact the fall prevention coordinator of Fit in Wassenaar: Soraya Sip on 06-24 60 84 45 or viainfo@fitinwassenaar.nl She can advise you and register for a course if desired. There are already 3 courses planned for 2026 and there are still a few places available. Don’t hesitate, because according to Wilma and Charles it is definitely recommended. Fun to do, educational and you also get extra information about nutrition, for example.
