Fit in Wassenaar has participated in the election for the Best exercise initiative in South Holland 2025. This election was organized by the Province of South Holland and is for ‘small’ initiatives with great significance for residents who enjoy exercising in the neighborhood. There were no fewer than 44 entries from across the province that participated in this election. The awards ceremony was held on September 26 and Fit in Wassenaar ended up with a wonderful 7theplace.
Train the Learner Program
Fit in Wassenaar participated in the election with the ‘Train the student’ project. With the Train the Student program, Fit in Wassenaar trains students from groups 7 and 8 to become starting sports and games coaches. These game supervisors provide sports and game activities at their school during the break. In this way, we ensure a sustainable approach to break sports, in which children themselves take the lead in supervising sports activities at school. In addition to motor skills, these students also use other skills and talents. Such as taking responsibility, standing in front of a group, making contact and coaching. To reinforce this recognition, we also received a check worth €500 to invest in our initiative.
Sports Councilor Laurens van Doeveren is proud of this nomination:
“Fit in Wassenaar shows that small initiatives make a big difference. With the ‘Train the Student’ As a municipality, we not only give children the opportunity to exercise, but also to grow in cooperation and self-confidence. I am proud of this 7th place in the province and especially of the impact we are making on the schoolyards of Wassenaar. In this way we build a healthy and active generation together.”
Schools are enthusiastic
The Train the Student program has been enthusiastically received at primary schools in Wassenaar. Fit in Wassenaar is currently providing the program at the fourth school. With the Pausesport and the Train the Student program, Fit in Wassenaar is building a generation that not only moves, but also learns to get others moving. In addition to children being more active during the school day, we also hope that they will take this fun with them and play outside more often after school. In person or on Wednesday afternoon at Fit’s Buurtsport in Wassenaar. Because the numbers don’t lie, 1 in 6 children never plays outside!
