In recent weeks, Mila, Harvey, Hamid and Leona have shown with great enthusiasm what happens when you give children responsibility and trust. The Train-the-Student program of Fit in Wassenaar (part of Kanslokaal) was successfully completed at the St. Jan Baptist School in Wassenaar. These four students have been trained as beginning sports game supervisors — and they did so with gusto!
The St. Jan Baptist School is now the third school in Wassenaar where this process has been carried out. What stands out? Each school brings its own dynamics, but the impact on the students is universal: more self-confidence, better cooperation and visible pleasure in supervising sports and games activities.
More than sports: a lesson in leadership
During the process, the students not only learned how to explain a game or manage a group, but also how to collaborate, take initiative and deal with responsibility. These skills are indispensable — on the schoolyard and beyond. The program thus contributes to the broader development of citizenship skills: children learn to contribute actively and positively to their environment.
Break time sport as a powerful tool
The use of Pausesport at school has proven to be a bull’s eye time and time again. It offers:
Movement with meaning: Children stay fit and learn to work together in a playful way.
Peace for the teacher: Less pressure during breaks, more space for recovery or preparation.
Sustainable change: By educating students, a lasting sports culture is created at school.
Building an active future together
The collaboration between Fit in Wassenaar and the St. Jan Baptist School shows what is possible when sport and education reinforce each other. The students’ pride in receiving their certificate was palpable — and rightly so!
We look forward to further rolling out this process at other schools in Wassenaar. The next school will be supervised after the summer holidays.
