First fall prevention course completed

08/05/2023

Last month the first fall prevention course was given in Wassenaar. The course is organized by Fit in Wassenaar and conducted by Taco van den Broek, chairman of Snel en Lenig and judo teacher. In three lessons, attention was paid to movement, your own balance, what to do if you fall and how to get up again. Self-confidence plays a role in this.

Various courses were completed for movement and balance: alone, with a large ball, over obstacles, etc. In addition, the basic elements of fall arrest were explained. Unfortunately, you cannot convey the reflexes of 55 years of judo, but you can provide tips on what not to do and what to do. It was nice to see that a student who had once fallen hard after a minor blockage still participated in those exercises. Fall breaking is something you should especially learn as a child, for example through judo. But exercise is for all ages. Versatile exercise maintains strength, balance and mobility, which helps prevent falls and their consequences in the elderly.

The students all indicated that they would like to participate in a follow-up or repetition. Something for you? Please indicate in advance by email to info@fitinwassenaar.nl that you are interested in this short fall prevention course.
