Outdoor exercise together

11-06-2025

Wednesday, June 11, outside on National Outdoor Play Day in the garden of the Sophieke meeting point. Playing outside and going outside is important for children to grow up healthy. Did you know that exercising and going outside is also valuable for vital aging? That is why we in Wassenaar have chosen to consciously use this day for a different target group: our elderly. For example, elderly people who exercise, maintain social contacts and have a healthy lifestyle have a lower risk of dementia and reduce the risk of falls. 6,732 Dutch people died in 2023 as a result of a fall. This makes falls the largest non-natural cause of death in the Netherlands. Research shows that outdoor exercise not only improves mood and strengthens the body, but also reduces the fear of falling. So come out with us on June 11! Target group: Our older residents and in particular older people with dementia and Parkinson’s. Activities: Chair yoga, Parkinson’s boxing and walking. Date: June 11. Location: meeting point Sophieke van Amarosa, van Zuylen van Nijeveltstraat 313, 2242 LJ Wassenaar Time: walk-in at 10.15 am, activities from 10.30-11.30 am.
