What a morning! During the very first Parent & Child Festival ‘Full of Adventure’ on October 8, dozens of parents and young children enjoyed a unique combination of learning, playing and meeting in the Wassenaar Library. While children climbed, laughed and listened to adventurous stories, parents had inspiring conversations about parenting, health and balance.

A festival that makes parenting just that little bit easier
Many parents would like to know more about parenting, health and their child’s first thousand days – but find little time to attend information meetings. The Parent & Kind Festival offered the solution for this: parents could gain valuable knowledge, while their children were entertained with fun activities under the guidance of professionals.
βIt’s nice to learn and play at this festival at the same time,β says a participating father with daughters Sam and Guusje

The morning focused on the Children’s Book Week theme ‘Full of Adventure’ and The Week of Healthy Pregnancies. It was a festive atmosphere in which discovery, learning and relaxation were central.
Ronald Zoutendijk, councilor for Culture and Welfare:
“Being a parent and a child is an adventure and in that adventure lies the power of growing, learning and enjoying together.”

What there was to do
During the festival, parents and children could participate in various activities:
For children:
β’ Reading aloud in the Children’s Book Week theme Full of Adventure, crafts and an exercise course.
For parents:
β’ Discussions with local experts about, among other things, education, balance and support such as supportive parenting.

π± Together we are strong for a promising start
The festival fits within Fit in Wassenaar’s vision that every child deserves the best possible start. By linking activities to national themes such as Children’s Book Week and Healthy Pregnancy Week, learning becomes fun, accessible and connecting.
“The first 1,000 days are crucial for a child’s development. With initiatives like this, we bring knowledge and relaxation together β exactly what young families need.”
